Fish Crow Corvus ossifragus

Flight call description A nasal, two-note "ca-ha" or a single "ahh" and a rolling, more liquid "cahh, cahh, cahh" may be used as flight calls (see Behavior).

Examples

Diurnal calling sequences:

1. New Jersey October 6, 1998 (MO). "Cahh, cahh, cahh" calls from a bird in flight.

2. New Jersey August 5, 2001 (MO). Calls from perched bird.

3. Florida April 4, 1989 (WRE). Variety of calls from perched birds.

 

Similar species Distinctive. "Cahh cahh cahh" call similar to American Crow but more nasal and more liquid.

 

Behavior Diurnal migrant. Highly vocal species, yet seems to be mostly silent in migration flight.
