Similar species See Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting and buzz calls.

 

Behavior Primarily a nocturnal migrant but engages in redetermined migration and limited resumed migration. Gives flight call regularly while perched and in flight during the day and during nocturnal migration.

 

Spectrographic description Measured call (N=1) was 103 mS in duration and 5.1-7.8  kHz frequency range. The frequency track was double-banded and level or slightly rising. It was modulated with 7 deep humps with an even spacing of 13.4 mS and a uniform depth 870 Hz.

 

Discussion Our experience with this species' flight call is limited to one recorded individual and a few others heard.
