Similar species Higher-pitched, louder, longer than Rufous Hummingbird. See Buff-bellied Hummingbird.
Behavior Diurnal migrant. Nocturnal migration not documented. Birds in migration flight may be mostly silent. Gives flight call regularly on the breeding and wintering grounds.
Discussion Male calls average higher-pitched than female calls (Howell, 2002).
