Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus
Flight call description No known flight call, but often gives a husky bark in flight while interacting with other birds. Also gives a growly screech in flight, usually with a sharp rising inflection at the end.

Similar Species See Long-eared Owl. Screech call similar to Barn Owl but typically shorter, weaker, less piercing, and with more emphatic rise at the end.
Behavior Primarily a nocturnal migrant though occasionally seen in diurnal migration, particularly first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon.
