Flight call description A dry, finely buzzy "dzzzz". Variable.

Perched bird.
Similar species Very similar to Swamp Sparrow but averages dryer. Extremes may be distinctive. See buzz calls.
Behavior Nocturnal migrant. Gives flight call regularly while perched, particularly around dawn and dusk, during the day and during nocturnal migration.
Spectrographic description Measured calls (N=10) were 91.4-178.4 (132.1) mS in duration and in the 6.6-11.2 (7.6-9.9) kHz frequency range. The frequency track was double or, less often, single-banded and was either level, slightly rising, or slightly descending. It was evenly modulated with a spacing between humps of 5.2-6.9 (6.0) mS and a depth of 0.5-1.1 (0.8) kHz.
