Discussion:

        The "short rising seep" group is a large species complex in eastern North America whose flight calls are above 6KHz in frequency and are rising in pitch. The members of this group are listed in the table above. While all these species' flight calls share a rising characteristic, other features of the calls may give them distinctiveness from one another. Calls vary in duration, pitch, and character of rising pitch. Also useful for identification are the somewhat subjective characters such as tinny or lisping qualities. Playing the calls in the table above will reveal these qualities and, with practice, one may be able to identify some species in the field by their flight calls.
